Jóvenes Embajadores de Segovia

 Fue una linda manera de comenzar mi exploración de la cultura de Segovia con el feriado de San Frutos. San Frutos es una celebración de un santo al cuál se le atribuyen milagros muy interesantes. Por primera vez vi un evento con las tarimas grandes que solo había visto en el Acueducto cuando ha habido presentaciones grandes.

El primero es el conocido como “La despeñada”, cuando el Santo consigue salvar la vida de una mujer que había sido arrollada en las Hoces de Duratón por su marido celoso, previniendo su caída. El siguiente es el que hizo una raya con un báculo para abrir la tierra y evitar que los moros entrasen a Frutos; luego convirtió fieros toros en bestias sumamente dóciles para hacer trabajos difíciles. Finalmente, su último milagro en vida fue hacer que un burro se arrodillara ante una hostia escondida en su comida.

Cada año en Segovia se celebran varias actividades para esta ocasión, entre las más interesantes el Prodigioso Paso de la Hoja del Libro de San Frutos. Se celebra cada martes 24 de octubre a las horas 00:00 en la puerta de la Catedral y la de este año fue realmente una linda celebración. Me encanta ver como en los festivos como este, Segovia se llena de gente en las calles, sorprende ver tantas personas caminando hacia la plaza mayor cuando ya todo está oscuro.

Antiguas leyendas dicen que cuando el santo llegue a la última página del “Libro de Vida” el mundo se acabará. Una vez acaecido el milagro del pase de la página el evento fue seguido de una clásica Sopa del Santo deliciosa. Tan buena que la fila para tomarla parecía que no tuviera fin. Esta es la sopa Castellana, mi favorita en España! ¿Lograron ir?

It was a warming way to begin exploring Segovia’s culture by seeing the holiday of San Frutos. San Frutos was a celebration of a saint whose attributed with very interesting miracles. For the first time, I saw an event with the large setups I’d only seen by the Acueduct during big performances.

The first is known as “La despeñada” in which he saves a woman’s life by preventing her falling after being thrown in the Hoces de Duratón by her jealous husband. The second miracle is when he made a line with a staff to open the ground and prevent the «moros» from coming to Frutos. He then turned menacing bulls to submissive beasts to help with tough work. Finally, his last miracle whilst alive was making a donkey kneel before a consecrated host which was hidden in his food.

Every year Segovia celebrates this holiday with multiple activities for the occasion. Amongst the most interesting ones is the Prodigious Change of Page of San Frutos’ Book. Every 24^th of October this miracle is celebrated outside the Cathedral’s main entrance at 00:00 h. This year’s festivity was quite a beautiful celebration. I love it when Segovia gets full of people in its streets during festivities like these. It really surprises you to see that many people walking towards Plaza Mayor during moonlight.

Ancient legends believe the day San Frutos reaches the last page of the “Book of Life”, the world will end. Once the miracle of the page turning happens, the event is followed by a delicious classical Soup of the Saint. So delicious the line to get it seemed it had no end. The soup is known as Sopa Castellana, my favorite Spanish soup! Did you manage to go?
