Todos los años Segovia celebra la fiesta judía de Janucá. Este año se celebrará en la Plaza del Corpus el lunes 18 de diciembre a las ocho de la noche.

Como bien saben Segovia albergaba comunidades de judíos por muchos años y mantiene aún su barrio judío impecable. Es de los más bonitos de la ciudad por lo cual se nota la buena influencia de ellos en la ciudad y se demuestra que es tan lindo que se ha mantenido el estilo.

La fiesta del Janucá también es conocida como la fiesta de las luces o luminarias. Lo curioso y divertido es que se celebra durante ocho días. Como tradición celebran el milagro del poder encender el candelabro del Templo (Segundo Templo de Jerusalén del siglo II). Lo hacen encendiendo una vela de un candelabro de nueve brazos (januquía) al día. Estos nueve brazos representan cada uno de los días más un brazo.

Estoy extremamente curiosa por poder ver la celebración con mis ojos y pasearme por aquellas zonas tan bonitas de mi Segovia. Anímense a ir el lunes a la Plaza, habrá música, baile, té y degustación de sufganiots (deliciosos postres aceitosos, típicos de Janucá).

 

 

Every year Segovia hosts a special celebration of Hanukkah. This year’s celebration will take place in Plaza del Corpus on December 18th, at 8pm.

As you well know Segovia was home to many Jewish communities for several decades and still preserves its Jewish neighbourhood to its perfection. To me its one of the prettiest of the city. This demonstrates the community’s positive influences here and shows how it was so well liked by everyone that they still keep it as it has always been.

Hanukkah is also known as the Festival of Lights and the Feast of Dedication. The interesting and fun part of the celebration is that it lasts eight days. As a tradition, the Jewish celebrate the miracle of being able to turn on the Temple’s candelabrum or menorah (in the Holy or Second Temple II AC). They progressively turn on the candles of the nine-branched candelabrum. These each represent each one of the days plus one branch.

I’m extremely curious to see the celebration myself and go wonder around those beautiful areas my dear Segovia has. I encourage you to go to the Plaza on Monday; there will be music, dancing, tea and sufganiyot degustation (Hanukka’s typical delicious oil-based dessert).
